Cheryl Morse has been a tax practitioner since 1982 and an Enrolled Agent since 1996. In addition to being a director and instructor of the New England Tax School for Practitioners, she is the Tax Manager for Emerging Business Partners, Inc., which prepares over 1500 tax returns annually. Cheryl graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. degree in accounting from Bentley College in Waltham, MA. In addition to instructing for NATP and the UMass Tax School, she educates taxpayers through a variety of community outreach events, and by being a contributing author for Forbes. She served on the Massachusetts Board of NATP as treasurer, represented the Northeast Region of the Taxpayer Advocacy Panel, as Chair, and is a contributor to the development of the IRS EA Examination.

With an MBA from Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland, Janet has helped over 600 organizations to grow sustainably, communicate better, improve systems, and more fully and enthusiastically reach their potential. She is a director of the Massachusetts Tax School for Practitioners, running the administration side of the program.

Her background is in administration, technology, arts, and business in industries including education, circus, sustainable energy, chef training, and publishing. In addition to running programs at the New England Tax School for Practitioners, Janet writes, speaks, coaches, and podcasts at 9 to Thrive, an organization dedicated to fearless leadership and creating better workplaces.

Chris Hawthorne became a licensed insurance broker as well as a licensed advisor to assist clients build, manage, coordinate and understand their commercial and personal insurance programs in 1994, after owning a business for eight years and experiencing the confusion, frustration and expense related to insurance. His goal being to have a client that has confidence in their coverage and has a sense of control over their program. Chris is a Regional Vice President of Cleary Insurance, Inc. He is a graduate of The George Washington University. Chris has earned the designations of Certified Insurance Counselor and Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter and he is the author of over 35 insurance-related articles as well as the cyber chapter for the 2017 National Income Tax Workbook.

He is a former instructor at the Boston Insurance Library for the CPCU and ARM programs and currently is a presenter for the UMass Tax School on insurance and risk management issues as well as an annual speaker for the Salem State University’s Continuing Education Institute for Accountants.

Leo Lebeuf has worked for the Rhode Island Division of Taxation for 27 years. He has recently taken on a new role as the Division’s Taxpayer Experience Liaison. He will be responsible to meet with various community organizations to communicate law changes and other Division updates in an attempt to foster voluntary compliance within the state and provide a resource for taxpayers. Prior to this, he was the Chief of the Assessment and Review section within the Division since September of 2019. In this role, he was responsible for oversight of the Personal and Corporate Income Tax section as well as the Excise and Estate Tax section.

Joe McCarthy is a Senior Stakeholder Liaison with the Communication and Liaison, Stakeholder Liaison Field division of the Internal Revenue Service and has been doing outreach for 23 years.

Prior to this he was a Revenue Agent with the Internal Revenue Service for over 9 years. A Certified Public Accountant, Joe has Bachelors of Science degree in accounting from Quinnipiac College. He has worked for the Internal Revenue Service for over 31 years. He began as a Revenue Agent auditing self-employed individuals and small businesses. During that time, he worked primarily on tax civil cases but was also a cooperating Agent on a number of criminal investigations. Currently Joe is the Stakeholder Liaison for and does outreach to tax professional organizations and their membership in New England. John Warren is an enrolled agent, NTPI fellow and active member of NATP & NAEA. He organizes tax talk round tables across the state and often leads tax presentations in Amherst, Fall River, Attleboro, North Reading, Worcester, Jamaica Plain, Chelsea, Medford, Hyannis and New Bedford. He is a co-host of the Lower Cape TV program, “The Tax Experts.” John has prepared students for the Special Enrollment Exam. When US Tax Court comes to Boston, he leads a group of EAs to meet with the judge after the Calendar Call in chambers. His tax practice is in West Medford, “The Medford Tax Experts.”

John began his tax career writing software for the corporate tax group at Digital Equipment in Acton. He worked for ten years as a compliance analyst for a do-it-yourself tax software product. John sat on the MA DOR Advisory Council for several years. In 2017, he spearheaded first in the nation legislation to fund low income clinics to resolve MA DOR controversies. In 2018, he initiated the successful effort to conform MA codified regulations to the Internal Revenue Code with regards to equitable relief for Innocent Spouse claims. He organized the New England EA pro bono panel and is active with the federal Collection Due Process Summit Initiative. Just recently his service to taxpayers was commended by Congress. He lives, breathes, eats, and dreams tax.
